14Free Episode 9 - Lunenburg Farmers' Market

In Episode 9, we visit the Lunenburg Farmers’ Market in Essex County. As we were leaving the office the day of the visit, our co-worker who is familiar with the town of Lunenburg told us we were “in for a treat”. How right she was! The market is held in the town green and run by a group of volunteers who are committed to making this resource available to all the farmers, entrepreneurs, and members of the community. Essex County is Vermont’s most rural county which means that access to grocery stores is limited. Making fresh, local foods at the Farmers’ Markets available to all members of the community—including those participating in the 3SquaresVT benefit—is particularly invaluable when living far from grocery stores and/or with limited transportation options. Furthermore, the market has become a place to come together to visit with neighbors, learn new recipes, share gardening advice, and enjoy story-time and live bands. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the market and were thrilled to come home with lots of fresh vegetables, breads, and jams!
