Eating for Energy

Guest Blog post by our Marketing and Development Intern, Amy Forshay

Between keeping up with my studies, interning here at Hunger Free Vermont, playing a college sport and everything else I seem to find myself involved with as a student and varsity athlete, I’ve come to realize just how important it is to eat for energy in order to succeed in each of my endeavors. For me, this means eating every two to three hours, starting with a big breakfast—like eggs, oatmeal or yogurt with fresh fruit—followed by a high-protein lunch to give me the energy I need before practice, as well as a healthy dinner to refuel afterwards, with light snacks in between to keep my energy up all day long. Whether you’re eating to be a student athlete, a leader, a professional at work, a parent, or really, anything at all, we all live pretty fast paced lives, so shouldn’t we all consider eating for energy in order to be the best we can be?

This post is part of our month-long blog series in celebration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' "National Nutrition Month." This year's theme is, "Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day," so each of us here at Hunger Free Vermont will take a turn to share a personal goal, story or fact regarding nutrition through daily blog posts throughout the month.
