My confession: I love my blender. It all began last fall when I was home with a nasty cold and opened the fridge to see only a bunch of kale, a carrot, and a cucumber staring back at me (not the comfort food I was hoping for). None the less, in the blender they went with some fresh ginger, apple cider, a lemon, and a pear. What began as a cold remedy has blossomed into a daily habit. I do try to include fruits and veggies with all my meals and snacks but have incorporated smoothies as a great way to fight off hunger pangs throughout the day and to ensure that I get enough fruits and vegetables each day. I haven’t been sick a day since the smoothies started flowing!

This post is part of our month-long blog series in
celebration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' "National
Nutrition Month." This year's theme is, "Eat Right, Your Way, Every
Day," so each of us here at Hunger Free Vermont will take a turn to
share a personal goal, story or fact regarding nutrition through daily
blog posts throughout the month.
