3SquaresVT Helps Me Afford Healthy Foods

Guest Blog post by Eat Well, Age Well Volunteer, Tamsen Goldfield

I am a senior who volunteers with Hunger Free Vermont’s Eat Well, Age Well program, and also participate in 3SquaresVT. As a senior on a limited fixed budget, I know first-hand how hard it can be to afford nutritious foods like fresh vegetables. As I get older, it has become very clear to me that good nutrition and better health go hand-in-hand. Participating in 3SquaresVT has helped me stretch my budget and buy more of the healthy foods that I like. Since enrolling in the program, I feel much stronger and am healthier overall. As an Eat Well, Age Well volunteer, I have been able to educate other seniors about good nutrition and help more seniors enroll in 3SquaresVT so they can afford healthy food. Bringing better food to more senior tables has been rewarding for all of the volunteers.

This post is part of our month-long blog series in celebration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' "National Nutrition Month." This year's theme is, "Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day," so each of us here at Hunger Free Vermont will take a turn to share a personal goal, story or fact regarding nutrition through daily blog posts throughout the month.
