At our last Board of Directors meeting we shared the new documentary A Place at the Table. If you haven't seen this film yet, you must! Directors Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush examine the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity. I was particularly struck by Rosie, a Colorado fifth-grader who often has to depend on friends and neighbors to feed her and has trouble concentrating in school. Though Rosie lives in Colorado, I think she is a living example of what many children in Vermont experience on a daily basis in their struggles with food insecurity. A Place at the Table is in theaters, available for download on iTunes, and Hunger Free Vermont can coordinate a screening for your small group. Please let us know if you have a connection with a local theater in your town as we would love to help get this documentary in theaters across Vermont. We can solve hunger in this country and this film shows how the hunger epidemic in the US poses serious economic, social, and cultural implications for our nation. Making healthy food available and affordable is in the best interest of us all!
